While an MH death is rare in the United States, they do happen, and when it happens to the very young, the death creates a special kind of anguish for the parents. Why did this happen? How could this happen?

On August 30th, Dean Chaplynn Twiggs would have turned 13 years old, but four years earlier he died of Malignant Hyperthermia at the tender age of nine while undergoing a simple dental procedure.

Anguish carried silently inside can tear us apart, but when turned outward, it provides a catharsis and a shining opportunity to help others not fall victim to the same pain.

Dean’s mother, Denise, reached out to MHAUS wanting to celebrate Dean’s life on what would have been his 13th birthday because, she said, “I’d like to think he’d want me to give back.”

Help us celebrate Dean’s life on his birthday, August 30th, with whatever donation amount fits your budget. The money will go, in Dean’s name, to promoting optimum care and improving scientific understanding of MH and related disorders.

Dean was an artist who enjoyed singing and dancing and telling wild and crazy stories. He was a jokester and an avid negotiator who played football and video games and was an aspiring YouTuber. He was interested in math and had a curious mind. In discovering something new, he’d remark, “Guess what?” He found the beauty in everything, often saying, “That’s beautiful.”

In his brief time here he made an impact on many people. He would talk to anyone and had a special knack of knowing when someone was upset. He’d give a hug or make a joke to make them smile, even strangers. When he’d leave, he’d always say, “Peace out.”

He loved playing with his friends and being outdoors, but mostly, he loved spending time with his family. In short, he could have been anybody’s son with the same interests. His favorite color was blue and he was looking forward to becoming a teenager.

Thank you for whatever you can give to celebrate the birthday of Dean Chaplynn Twiggs of Manteno, Illinois.
